FOOT HEALTH TIPS
- Walking is the best exercise for your feet.
- Properly fitted shoes are essential.
- Bathe your feet daily in lukewarm water, using mild soap.
- Trim or file your toenails straight across.
If you are diabetic:
- DON'T walk barefoot. Keep your feet covered to prevent cuts, blisters
and bruises.
- DO wear socks. Choose white ones, which allow you to see splinters
and other foreign objects that might be trapped there.
- DON'T sit with your legs crossed (this inhibits blood flow to your
feet).
- DO wash your feet every day.
- DO moisturize daily.
- DO trim toenails carefully.
- DON'T heat your feet.
- DO check your feet regularly, look for discoloration and injuries
Pregnancy
- Pregnant women need to observe good foot health to prevent pain
and discomfort.
Additional body weight also calls for more support, to prevent foot "breakdown."
Orthotics is a good choice.
Your children's feet:
- Children's feet are soft and pliable and abnormal pressure can easily
cause deformities.
- Neglecting foot health invites problems in other parts of the body.
There can also be undesirable personality effects.
- Problems noticed at birth will not disappear by themselves. Visit
a specialist.
Sport activities and your feet:
Unusually high amounts of movement and pressure as a result of sport activities
can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Orthotics help absorb these pressures,
and can reduce abnormal rotation and side to side movement.
- Runners, walkers, tennis players, cyclists, skiers, golfers, baseball
players, soccer players, rollerbladers/skaters or anyone who engages in
sports will benefit.
Orthotics will also help:
-People who must walk or stand excessively at work, those who are overweight
and people with special needs, such as diabetics or the elderly.
Don't believe that it is normal for the foot to hurt. Many foot problems
can be treated successfully, and the pain of foot ailments relieved.
